A Small World, A Big God!
Dateline:
Asuncion, Paraguay
June 17-19, 2008
Trombones harmonizing, the notes of an old hymn floating across the dirt streets of Aragua, an impoverished outlying suburb of Asuncion’. Voices singing familiar words in multiple languages – one language of praise lifted to God. Tears on faces – mothers clutching children, the hope and future of Paraguay. Proud faces of parents who have little in this world – realization in their eyes that God loves them, and someone does care. Brick and mortar rising from the red, sandy soil – a building of hope. Smiles and hugs all around – more tears. The dedication of a building that, when completed, will provide more opportunity for the fulfillment of enormous dreams – God-given dreams.

A brief respite from the labor. A little shopping for memories to bring home – reminders of a wonderful experience. A short time to relax weary hands and backs and view the greatness of God expressed in one of the greatest wonders of the natural world. God’s glory expressed in rushing waters.

One last breakfast with a precious missionary and local pastor. Farewells to those who have worked so hard to help make this mission possible – more tears and hugs. Bags loaded into trucks and vans for the ride to the airport. Guarani vendors offering a few last mementos that we must purchase, of course. Almost two full days of travel ahead – going home. Glad - but sad.

So many memories and so many stories. Lives changed forever – new perspectives of Who God really is. The knowledge that your prayerful support and your hands reached across the globe through us – you were here. Looking ahead already to the next trip with excitement and anticipation. We will go for you again – perhaps you will go with us.

One last prayer request – the hand of God covering the team as we travel back to America. Many long hours to reminisce – shared memories – blessings re-lived. Home to the usual – the everyday. But not really – nothing will ever be the same. For veteran and first timer, life now has a different flavor. We saw God in Paraguay.
